How would you describe your morning routine? What do you typically do?
Open the windows and let the ~sunlight~ in, make coffee, read, make breakfast (or stop at the Polish bakery next door to my apartment, of course), forget to brush my hair, leave 10 minutes later than anticipated. Slow, happy mornings are way more important to me than “looking good.” Oops, forgot to brush my hair again ☺
Commuting in a big city, what is it like and what tips do you have about it?
RIP L train (the subway I take from Brooklyn to Manhattan). Yikes. But be encouraged that you do get into a rhythm, and commutes get easier and feel shorter (for me, at least). Always err on the side of leaving early. Google maps is your best friend.
What is your go-to work outfit?
Some days, a graphic tee and high wasted jeans and vans. Other days, work pants and heels. I am just as confused as you are about that.
What is something you always have at your desk?
Candy because sometimes you just really need some candy. Napkins because I spill my coffee far too often. Oh – did I mention coffee? Yes, I am as healthy as I sound.
What is your favorite spot in the office?
The café areas by the kitchen on each floor are lovely, especially in the afternoon/evening when the sun pours in. Obviously the roof is a go-to when I need a 3 minute dance party to break up my day.
When you know it is going to be a challenging day at the office, what helps keep you motivated?
First off, I heard my boss say “we’re not saving lives” once and I try to remind myself of that all the time – nobody’s life depends on my job *deep breath*
On challenging days I make lists, I bring headphones and listen to instrumental music (basically so that nobody talks to me), I eat chocolate, and I just put my head down and work. It’s gotta get done – do what you need to do to make the process better.
What kind of projects have you worked on so far in this current rotation?
I don’t really know how to answer this question – so I won’t ;) I have gotten to be a part of so many projects being on account. You have a hand in everything!
Lunch break! What do you do for lunch?
I split 50/50 if I eat at my desk or eat with friends – depends on the workload of the day. I bring my lunch most of the time… unless I want to sleep in. Then I buy lunch at the café. But if it’s a GREAT day, I go down the street to Gotham West Market ☺
What do you wish someone had told you day one?
Follow around the smartest people you can find and do nothing but listen. Nobody in this building needs me for my expertise – it is my only job to learn. And that’s awesome and will never happen again. Take advantage of it! Go learn!
How do you break up your work day?
You should have seen me and Lucas (another Associate) yesterday – we improv danced on the roof for 3 minutes because we just really needed a break.
If you had to pick, what has been your favorite thing about working at Ogilvy?
Working with such intelligent, creative, FUN people!
Are you involved in any professional networks? If so, which ones and what do you like about it?
Young Professionals Network! It connects young people in the workplace – aka it helps you make FRIENDS! That’s great news. I just joined the Women’s Leadership Professional Network and I’m so excited to see what’s in store there.
Hell’s Kitchen – what is a cool local spot/restaurant/shop around the office you have found that you love?
Ugh. All of my love to Underwest Donuts. And Rudy’s. I will go with you anytime.
How do you wind down after a long day at work?
Winding down looks for me is doing something that requires almost nothing – just sitting in a park or reading in my bed or chatting with my roomie over ice cream ☺
When you are not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
I love waltzing around BrooklynI love exploring parks, I love going into bookstores or walking through pop-up shops around town, I’m really into jazz clubs these days, and I love trying all the coffee shops within walking distance of me
Ogilvy Facts 101 – what is something interesting you have learned about Ogilvy as a company?
I love the founder’s culture here. Ogilvy as a company is really loyal to David Ogilvy’s dream for this agency – and he was a very smart man, so it’s really worked out for us.
If you get to leave the office early…
If it was today, I’d go to Chinatown. Just in the mood. Another day, Sheep Meadow in Central Park. A different day, the Met. When you’re free, you’re free!!!! Who knows where I’d go
An Ogilvy secret revealed…
HALF OFF BAKED GOODS IN THE CAFÉ. EVERY DAY. 3-4PM. Best. Pickmeup. Ever.
