How would you describe your morning routine? What do you typically do?
I run, overspend on an açaí bowl, then roll up to 636 11th!
Commuting in a big city, what is it like and what tips do you have about it?
Walk to work. If work happens to be Ogilvy, you’ll pass the morning parade of kebab vendors and horse-drawn carriages––the combination of which really provides a stimulating olfactory experience at 8:30 am.
What is your go-to work outfit?
Something black, something suede, and heels.
What is something you always have at your desk?
Tic Tacs. That I steal from the desk behind mine.
What is your favorite spot in the office?
Was the Poké station in the café.
When you know it is going to be a challenging day at the office, what helps keep you motivated?
My fellow associates <3
What kind of projects have you worked on so far in this current rotation?
Wrote an Effie Awards Proposal for an Ogilvy IBM campaign that crushed it last year
Cool because I got to use all of Ogilvy’s ridiculous research tools that let you do things like calculate brand equity with emojis, or pull every single piece of creative billboard advertising in tech from 2002.
Developed a digital consumer self-assessment tool
Cool because to calculate the number of hypothetical results, I tapped into my high school statistics knowledge and learned that “Combinatorics” is word.
Booked conference rooms
Not that cool. (But important!)
Lunch break! What do you do for lunch?
Play hooky and go to Gotham Market.
What do you wish someone had told you day one?
Probably wouldn’t have remembered. Day one was a lot.
How do you break up your work day?
With different kinds of tea.
If you had to pick, what has been your favorite thing about working at Ogilvy?
That David Ogilvy wrote so much about doing advertising. His musings aren’t always applicable to right now, nor are they all particularly nice, but with them he inspires a kind of introspection that I find affirming.
Are you involved in any professional networks? If so, which ones and what do you like about it?
Young Professional Network, and Women’s Professional Network. I honestly haven’t done more than attend a few happy hours with these groups, but I’m really happy they exist.
Hell’s Kitchen – what is a cool local spot/restaurant/shop around the office you have found that you love?
Fine and Dandy is an antique men’s accessories shop on 49th and 10th. It is run by the most polished person I’ve ever met, Enrique, and his husband who I’ve never seen and whose name I forget. My favorite thing Enrique has shown me are these tobacco silks (literal patches of cloth that were wrapped around cigarettes packs 100 years ago). Every major college at the time had its own silk. Sort of wild to think about school pride as a brand strategy for this kind of product...that just doesn’t exist as blatantly today. The silks are really pretty. I’m waiting for him to find me UVa one.
How do you wind down after a long day at work?
A drink at The Press Lounge.
When you are not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
Brunch. Movies. I get that neither of these are super NYC-specific activities.
Ogilvy Facts 101 – what is something interesting you have learned about Ogilvy as a company?
This summer Ogilvy committed to hiring 20 women into high-level creative roles by the end of 2020.
If you get to leave the office early…
~Get lost in the city~ for the afternoon.
An Ogilvy secret revealed…
I lied about the coming to work at 8:30 thing. I think I’ve been that early once.
