How would you describe your morning routine? What do you typically do?
I live close by, so I wake up around 8 and usually spend an hour trawling for inspiration on Instagram (most of it comes from cute animal videos). Then I walk to the office, make a list of things I want to accomplish before I leave, and start caffeinating!
Commuting in a big city, what is it like and what tips do you have about it?
Get a good pair of headphones. I have in-ear Jaybird Freedoms, and they block out 90% of ambient noise, which is a must on the subway
What is your go-to work outfit?
I like to wear blazers and chinos because that’s what I look best in, I think. If I know I’m going to have a really busy day though, I’ll suit up because suits are legendary.
What is something you always have at your desk?
Coffee! I lived in Seattle for a year, so I’m obsessed with the stuff.
What is your favorite spot in the office?
Anywhere near a window. The office has some spectacular views towards Time Square and overlooking the Hudson. I always try to take some time to look out one of the huge windows and feel thankful I get to live in such an amazing city.
When you know it is going to be a challenging day at the office, what helps keep you motivated?
Knowing that, at the end of the day, my job isn’t me and doesn’t define my life. I have hobbies and passions outside of work, and once I leave the office, I get to pursue those.
What kind of projects have you worked on so far in this current rotation?
Currently I’m working on a project for Comcast, who wants to launch a new service to help target their ads.
Lunch break! What do you do for lunch?
Honestly the café is usually really good, but if I’m not feeling that, the fish tacos and crepes at Gotham Market (2 blocks away) are wicked good.
How do you break up your work day?
I generally eat lunch around 1, and around 2:45, I usually give myself 15 minutes to just relax, listen to music, read (i.e. rant online) about the Yankees!
If you had to pick, what has been your favorite thing about working at Ogilvy?
Payday is funday.
Are you involved in any professional networks? If so, which ones and what do you like about it?
I’m in Young Professional Network. I end up going to a lot of their events because they’re chill people and usually there are free drinks and food.
Hell’s Kitchen – what is a cool local spot/restaurant/shop around the office you have found that you love?
Sake Bar Hagi 46 is my favorite place in the city. From 46th street, it looks like any other slightly sketchy sushi shop, but when you walk down it’s like being teleported back into late 80’s early 90’s Japan. They only play Japanese jazz music, the food is good and cheap, and they have any kind of Japanese drink you could want. It’s like stepping into a Murakami novel.
How do you wind down after a long day at work?
In NYC, you’re never lacking for things to do. Sometimes I go uptown to play Dungeons and Dragons, other times I’ll sit at home with a glass of McGregor’s whisky and watch Twin Peaks.
When you are not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
I’m still looking for my go-to coffee shop in Hell’s Kitchen, so I do that a lot. Otherwise I’m trying to convince people I know to go to museums with me (they never do) or try new bars (which they usually agree to).
Ogilvy Facts 101 – what is something interesting you have learned about Ogilvy as a company?
We did the original ads for Guinness in the states. I can’t imagine what a dark and desolate world this would be without that black gold *shudders*
If you get to leave the office early…
I would go home, duh
An Ogilvy secret revealed…
Oh there’s a bunch, but I’ll never tell, hence why my hair is so big.
