How would you describe your morning routine? What do you typically do?
I usually like to read something on the metro, such as the morning news or a book. I usually get off at 50th and Broadway and walk the rest of the way to work while listening to a podcast. I have been listening to some combination of “Keeping it 1600”, “Pod Save America”, “Startup” and “The Pitch”.
Commuting in a big city, what is it like and what tips do you have about it?
It’s not too bad once you pick up something to do along the ride.
What is your go-to work outfit?
I usually try to go for business casual: chinos and a button down. I often end up in jeans and a sweater.
What is something you always have at your desk?
When I found out what rotation I would be working on, I got the book my boss wrote and I have been referencing it throughout my rotation.
What is your favorite spot in the office?
The rooftop when its warm. The Associates used to grab lunch all the time up there, but that was before winter came for us all.
When you know it is going to be a challenging day at the office, what helps keep you motivated?
The gym. It’s great for burning stress – and also calories apparently.
What kind of projects have you worked on so far in this current rotation?
We have been helping conduct interviews with different leads across different countries for our client. It’s amazing how much you learn about the industry by just immersing yourself.
Lunch break! What do you do for lunch?
I’ve been learning how to cook. Let’s just mark that down as a work in progress.
What do you wish someone had told you day one?
How collaboration can work in the advertising industry - as in what different approaches in today's digital age each agency is taking to co-lead client efforts.
How do you break up your work day?
I usually grab snacks, or take a quick walk through the hallway.
If you had to pick, what has been your favorite thing about working at Ogilvy?
The people I work with have been incredible. They all seem very open, and have been great friends and mentors at the same time.
Hell’s Kitchen – what is a cool local spot/restaurant/shop around the office you have found that you love?
The Landmark Tavern seems to be a popular place for happy hour. They have a poster up designating the place as an unofficial Ogilvy conference room.
How do you wind down after a long day at work?
I watch the NBA or Duke basketball. With March just around the corner, I think I’m gonna look into that NCAA “Boss Button” feature I’ve been hearing about.
When you are not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
I jog along the Hudson sometimes when it’s warm. It’s a great view.
Ogilvy Facts 101 – what is something interesting you have learned about Ogilvy as a company?
I never realized the level of collaboration across Ogilvy and other WPP companies. It’s just an interesting perspective into how companies can leverage skills and disciplines beyond the ones it is known for.
If you get to leave the office early…
Watch a movie. I haven’t been doing much of that lately. Or maybe I can catch the taping of the Daily Show. Trevor Noah’s studio is literally down the street.
An Ogilvy secret revealed…
There’s a barbershop on the lower floor with the guy who was the actual stylist for David Ogilvy. Don’t tell anyone. Getting an appointment takes a bit as it is.
