How would you describe your morning routine? What do you typically do?
To help jump start my day, I usually try to work out in the mornings before work. Most mornings I get up around 5:30, go to a work out class by the office and then walk to work. I like getting to the office a little early and having some time to organize my day before a lot of my team comes in.
Commuting in a big city, what is it like and what tips do you have about it?
My biggest tip is to try different ways to get into the office and see what works best for you, whether that's by car, subway or walking because you need to have options. There are so many ways to get around in the city, and factoring in routes based on where you live and your budget helps too.
What is your go-to work outfit?
Black jeans, boots, sweater and a scarf.
What is something you always have at your desk?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee! I also always have my notebook with my daily to-do list with me.
What is your favorite spot in the office?
The view of the city from the 9th floor. Sometimes when I am running around the office on a busy day, I stop and take a moment to admire the view. It's a beautiful reminder of how lucky I am to be working in this city.
When you know it is going to be a challenging day at the office, what helps keep you motivated?
Knowing I can turn to other Associates, mentors and managers throughout the office that I can turn to and ask questions because they believe in me and the work that I am doing.
What kind of projects have you worked on so far in this current rotation?
With New Business my day is always different. During this rotation, I have helped work on a longer pitch that began as soon as I started, and I'm able to experience working with many different sides of Ogilvy and see a project from the beginning to end. Also, I have worked on pieces and clips for other pitches, which helps expand my knowledge across various industries.
Lunch break! What do you do for lunch?
I try to bring my lunch at least three or four days out of the week, but on the days that I don’t, I love getting out of the office and walking to one of the various marketplaces close by.
What do you wish someone had told you day one?
At one of the Associate Learning & Development sessions, we were told that it is OK to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. As entry level, we often put so much pressure on ourselves to perform, but it is really important to remember that this program was designed to help us learn from mistakes and that there are so many intelligent and amazing people in this building that will help you learn and grow in this experience.
How do you break up your work day?
If I need a mental break, I will try to stop by one of the Associates desk for a quick chat, or I will go to the rooftop for a few minutes or get outside to clear my head.
If you had to pick, what has been your favorite thing about working at Ogilvy?
The energy. Everyone at the office is so passionate about the work they create and the clients that they work for. I have not met a person in the building who wasn’t willing to take 15 minutes to connect with you and discuss their journey and passions at Ogilvy.
Are you involved in any professional networks? If so, which ones and what do you like about it?
I am involved in the Women’s Professional Network as well as the Young Professional Network here. Being at such a large agency with so many people can be intimidating at times, especially for your first job out of college, but the professional networks help make the agency feel smaller and more like home. Through the Associates Program and the professional networks, I now have familiar faces that I see everyday, that I can reach out to if I ever need anything.
Hell’s Kitchen – what is a cool local spot/restaurant/shop around the office you have found that you love?
There are so many great coffee shops in this area, if I am headed to the office a little early I will always stop in different ones around the area.
How do you wind down after a long day at work?
I am a mix between an introvert and an extrovert so sometimes after a long day I like to walk part of the way home and then unwind at home by reading a book or watching TV. Occasionally, I also like to meet up after work with a friend for dinner or drinks to catch up.
When you are not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
On the weekends, I love to get outside as much as I can, whether I'm going for a run on the water or just walking around and exploring my neighborhood. I really like finding new hole-in-the-wall coffee shops or restaurants on these outings because New York City has so many options!
Ogilvy Facts 101 – what is something interesting you have learned about Ogilvy as a company?
I never fully understood how deeply rooted in history this company was until I started working here.
If you get to leave the office early…
During the warmer months, a lot of my friends will play pick-up basketball in the evenings, so if I get out of the office before the sun sets I try to join them. It is a fun way to release energy from a day at work and also get to hang out with friends. Also, a few of the Associates and I have talked about training for a marathon together, so we might plan to leave around the same time to train and go on runs.
An Ogilvy secret revealed…
The murals of quotes in the staircases are very motivating on a tough day!
